John Connelly has been a golf professional since 1983 and a PGA member since 1994. He has been teaching at Randalls Island for over a decade. Prior to this, he was the head instructor at New Jersey National Golf Club, the Head Professional at the Midtown Indoor Golf Club in Manhattan, and a Roland Stafford Golf School Instructor.
He is a Golf Digest Schools Certified Instructor and teaches at their Florida golf schools during the winter where he also conducts his own golf schools in Fort Lauderdale from December to April.
John is certified by the Titleist Performance Institute, TPI, specializing in identifying students’ physical capabilities and limitations as related to the golf swing. In addition, he has earned a BS Certification in the Golfing Machine, golf-swing knowledge based on Homer Kelley’s book.
John’s teaching style is not method driven. He strives to address each individual’s needs by assessing their unique abilities (or challenges) while adhering to principles of sound-swing mechanics.
John credits his knowledge of the golf swing to those who have mentored him, including: Mike Hebron, Mike Hebron Golf Academy; Jim Mclean Golf Academy; Patti McGowan of the David Leadbetter Golf Academy; Chuck Hogan, Chuck Hogan Sports Enhancement Associates; Mike Bentley, Bentley Golf and K-Vest Inventor; and Tim Stafford of Roland Stafford Golf Schools.
In his constant pursuit of practical and theoretical knowledge which will enhance and accelerate his client’s quest to play better golf, John attends continuing PGA educational seminars and conferences, studies historical and current literature, and takes golf lessons and seminars from other top professionals.
All John’s lessons include digital video analysis, the use of training aids, emailed videos and practice notes. Playing lessons are conducted at the Mosholu Golf Course in the Bronx.
